About Michel van Loon

My personal WHY

I’m Michel van Loon, the founder of Tecforia. Since I was young, technology and innovation fascinated me. Technology triggered an extreme curiosity: I always wanted to understand the essence of something new and then imagine how it would make an impact the world.

Technology fires my fantasy and stimulates my imagination… it never fails to conjure up that little boy in me, always dreaming of new opportunities.

This fascination prompted me to study Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Delft. And when I graduated my dreams came true: I started working for our Dutch tech giant, Philips.

Working as an engineer at the Philips High Tech campus, I quickly realized it usually takes many years for developments to reach the market and there’s a small chance of these developments actually succeeding. But I wanted to make an impact with these advances. I wanted to learn what else was needed, besides technical achievement, so I studied marketing; and I started to look at the bigger picture… from a client’s perspective.

Before long I had mastered two very different disciplines and I really enjoyed connecting them. Then I started adding other disciplines, like sales and content creation. I realized this was the key for success: to communicate effectively to your audience, to reach certain business goals, you first need to communicate effectively internally, between disciplines. This was the foundation for the launch of TECFORIA.

Why TECFORIA?

I believe that many great tech products fail to achieve their full potential because they simply do not to get the core story across to their target audiences. No one person or department is ever to blame for this; in most cases the exciting, innovative essence of a new product gets lost in translation, simply because the engineers who created and own the story struggle to explain the fundamentals of their work to other disciplines.

But there’s another crucial aspect. Innovation enables new possibilities, which most people can’t imagine at all. You need to help them to trigger their imagination of this new future, make them want to be part of it: to inspire them.

This last step is often very difficult for most tech companies, since they’ve been working on the details of the story for too long and have lost track of the bigger picture – the overarching vision that will truly excite their audience. They’re no longer able to look at anything with a fresh mind and the marketing process quickly stalls.

Tecforia address both issues. First I help you to explain your technology, by telling a crystal-clear story, optimized for your audience, supported by powerful, intuitive visuals.

My VISION & MISSION

I believe effective communications is the key to success for tech companies, in a time where people are overloaded with irrelevant information and no one has a moment to spare on topics that don’t interest them. To be able to reach people effectively, you need to hit a potential customer’s sweet-spot instantly. You need to tell your story in a way that inspires, and succeeds in generating the level of interest required to achieve your specific business goals.

My big vision is to create a world in which tech companies that are truly innovate always succeed. A world in which the quality of communication matches the quality of innovation.

To effectively inspire the world, you need to inspire your own team members and creative partners first. They all need to feel the excitement themselves, to be able to add their own magic. Then, and only then, can you go on to inspire the world.

My mission is to enable 1,000 innovative tech companies to make a real impact with their communications, by connecting all internal disciplines… helping each and every one to understand, shape and successfully tell their stories to the world.
